The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on April 21, 2022, Thursday at 6:30pm, a special session of Music Illustrated Talks, under the theme “United through Music: Friends for Ever”, with the participation of José Carlos Pereira and Shee Va.

Aware that the celebration of an anniversary constitutes, in itself, a communal act, the speakers propose to herald the 10th Anniversary of Rui Cunha Foundation under the theme of friendship, affection, esteem and dedication, feelings shared with the public of this institution. We all believe the social and cultural development of Macau and its People is one of our fundamental goals.

Therefore, this session of Music Illustrated Talks is aimed to explore the friendship between two composers – Benjamin Britten and Dmitri Shostakovich – who, despite being separated by language and the Iron Curtain during the Cold War, always understood each other through art and the deep admiration they had for each other’s music.

Britten dedicated his opera “The Prodigal Son” to Shostakovich, which he returned with the XIV Symphony. The moral attitude of both towards music, mankind and society, was what united them the most.

Both were fundamental pillars in the construction of 20th century music, which led the British conductor Jan Latham-Koening into founding the Britten-Shostakovich Festival Orchestra, bringing together young musicians from the Conservatories of the composers’ countries of origin, Russia and England.

The event will be held in Portuguese.

Admission is free, subject to room capacity.

Don’t miss it!
