The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Tuesday, August 13th at 3:00pm, the Greater Bay Area Manga Artists’ Exhibition “Comics 2024 + ArmourMan 2024”, two productions that will run over two weeks, co-organized by the Association of Promoting Macau Comics and Animation Cultural Exchange, from August 13 to 17 and again from 20 to 24, respectively, at FRC Gallery.

Curated by Howard Chan (陳兆銘), President of APMCACE, these exhibitions will feature more than 60 pieces of art in total: around 30 in the first week, with 9 Asian comic artists – from Macau, Hong Kong and Mainland China – and another 30 manga works by James Khoo, author of the famous “ArmourMan” series and a reference name in Hong Kong’s art scene.

The first week will showcase the collective edition of “Comics 2024” with the newest artworks created by the members of the Association, represented here by artists: Vincent Ho (湖水藍), Jet Wu (胡智杰), Yeung Siu (蓮生) and the duo Moto&TakTak, from Macau; Wai On (偉安), Linus Liu (廖光祖) and Wah Kei (張漢華) from Hong Kong; and Chen Wei (陳惟) and Lin Min (林敏), from China.

On the second week these art pieces will be replaced by the latest work of Hong Kong comics master James Khoo Fuk Lung (邱福龍), the father of “ArmourMan” which became a true blockbuster of weekly comics as soon as it was launched a year ago in RAEHK. The weekly magazine also achieved record sales in Macau, with most newsstands being sold out within 2 days. James Khoo is an experienced comics book author. His first masterpiece, “Iron Marshal”, sold 60,000 books when released. Later came box office hits like “Eastern Invincible”, “DragonMan” and many others.

“ArmourMan” is his latest work and has become the best-selling weekly comics magazine in Hong Kong. To celebrate the first anniversary of this publication, APMCACE organizers requested the artist for permission to exhibit in Macau recent manuscripts of “ArmourMan”. And though James Khoo will not be present for the exhibition, some editions from the collection were sent to feature and be purchased at FRC Gallery, aiming to further connect this popular and modern-day superhero with the young local audiences and visitors.

The Association for Promoting Macau Comics and Animation Cultural Exchange was created in 2014 to support the professional development of the industry, technical exchanges and cooperation between local and foreign illustrators, with a view to warranting more high-quality and large-scale projects, as well as publications, lectures and other activities that benefit the Macao community.

Admission is free.
