POSTER_RGBThe Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Tuesday, October 13, at 18:30, the Songs Fulfilled: A Calligraphy Exhibition by Mok Heisai

The title of this exhibition is drawn from a line in the “Greater Odes” of the Book of Songs: “My verses are but few, offered to prolong your song.” Borrowing the ancients’ spirit of praise and harmonious response, the artist answers his own time through brush and ink. Mok Heisai (pen name Ieng Ut) rose to prominence in calligraphy circles after the turn of the millennium with his mastery of the Slender Gold style. He is adept at transforming poetic imagery and rhythm into the interplay of solid and void in brushwork, forging a distinctive visual language.
The exhibition comprises three sections. Daily Life at the Desk presents selected calligraphic works from recent years. While observing compositional discipline, it also encompasses monumental large-character works and minimal-character compositions, revealing the artist’s interpretation of the form and meaning of Chinese characters, as well as the expressive range he achieves with tools such as chicken-feather, Maolong, and bamboo brushes. Tea Practice and Calligraphic Style focuses on Zen phrases written in dialogue with the way of tea, extending to tea utensils; through the spatial design, visitors may sense the refined rhythms of life distilled through calligraphy. Poetry, Calligraphy, and Fellowship gathers small collaborative works with friends in painting and letters, poetry manuscripts, and poetic correspondence, reflecting Macau’s contemporary literati network woven through poetry and calligraphy, and inviting viewers into a deeper act of reading.

Admission is free.
