The Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Tuesday, March 10th at 6:30 pm, the Solo Exhibition titled “Mirror Heart”, an Artistic Journey by Gao Lipeng (高立鵬), a painter from Shandong province on the northeast coast, with an active presence in the local art scene, where he studied for a PhD in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of the Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST).

The exhibition includes 26 paintings in Chinese ink and pastel tones, including originals and replicas, created by Gao Lipeng during his walks on the streets and alleys of Macau for the past three years, where he got lost trying to capture the texture and living history of the city. The selection, among over three hundred pieces, was made by curators Jun Zilan (君子蘭) and Lalin (栗蕙蘭), under the academic guidance of Wang Lan (汪藍). The collection reveals the artist’s most representative works, which demonstrate his spiritual reconstruction of the history and cultural landscape of Macau.

The project was co-organized by FRC, the Macau Man Ngai Publication (澳門文藝出版社), the Macao Association of Arts and Humanities (澳門人文藝術研究會), the Macao Shandong Cultural Exchange Association (澳門山東文化交流協會), and the Macau Weifang Fellow Villagers Sodality (澳門濰坊同鄉聯誼會).

Gao Lipeng‘s art integrates «traditional Chinese meticulous brushwork with contemporary artistic perspectives, reflecting his deep engagement with cultural heritage and urban narratives, particularly through his thematic works on Macau. His artistry embodies a fusion of academic rigor and creative innovation, establishing him as a prominent figure in contemporary Chinese painting», reads the exhibition manifesto.

Through the architectural texture and layers of light and shadow, Gao Lipeng «captures the historical encounters between Eastern and Western cultures». According to curator Wang Lan, «this exhibition is a summary of Gao Lipeng’s academic phase in Macau and also interprets his pursuit of ‘seeing the heart through art’ – the concept of ‘mirror heart’. In the dialogue between tradition and modernity, Gao Lipenguses ink to engage with contemporary themes of urban landscapes, paving a visual pathway for viewersthat connects personal experiences to collective memory».

Gao Lipeng is a member of the China Artists Association (CAA), a visiting scholar at Peking University, and serves as a council member of the Peking University Alumni Calligraphy and Painting Association. Additionally, he holds positions as a council member of the Shandong Youth Artists Association, a painter at the Li Keran Academy of Painting Young Artists, a researcher at the Dunhuang Chinese Painting Research Institute, one of the “Top Ten Outstanding Youths” in Weifang, a member of the Qingzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the Chairman of the Qingzhou Youth Artists Association, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the Qingzhou Association of Non-Party Intellectuals.

The artworks will be on display until March 21th, 2026.
