The Rui Cunha Foundation presents today, Tuesday, August 12th from 6:30pmonwards, the Greater Bay Area Manga Artists’ Annual Exhibition “APMCACE Comics 2025 + Hong Kong Machines”, two productions that will run over two weeks, co-organized by the Association of Promoting Macau Comics and Animation Cultural Exchange, from August 12 to 16 and again from 19 to 23, respectively, at FRC Gallery.

The first display will be open to visitors starting today, August 12th, without a formal ceremony. The opening inauguration will take place in the second week, on Tuesday, August 19th, at 4:00 pm. Renowned Hong Kong artist Felix Ip will be present at the event.

Curated by Howard Chan (陳兆銘), President of APMCACE, these two exhibitions will feature circa 60 pieces of art in total: around 30 in the first week, with 5 local comic artists from Macau, and another 30 manga works by Felix Ip from Hong Kong, a leading figure in the adjacent SAR art scene, a comics artist, illustrator, and animation director who has been actively involved in the development of art toys’ production in recent years.

The first week will showcase the collective edition of “Comics 2025” with the newest artworks created by the Association members, represented here by local artists: Leung Wai Ka (梁偉家), Nasu (茄子/ナス), Vincent Ho (湖水藍), Yeung Siu(蓮生), and ST (ST).

On the second week these art pieces will be replaced by the latest work of Hong Kong comics master Felix Ip (葉偉青), former Creative and Movie Director for Imagi Animation Studios and Unicorn Animation Studios. Some of his major works included “Zentrix”, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle”, “Astroboy” and “Monkey King Reloaded”. In 2012, the martial art adapted novel comic “Blood and Steel” has won the Best Adult Comic Golden Dragon Award. In 2019, the illustration book “HongKong Machines 1” – which features a series of “rustic” robots with the infusion of his childhood nostalgic memories – has won the Best Artbook Awardin the Asia Pacific Animation & Comics category. The “HongKong Machines”series is the most popular among his works and greatly supported by the public and various enterprise.

Since 2023, this series has been expanding to overseas market such as Singa Machines, Malaysia Machines, Taiwan Machines as well as Thailand Machines. The Blind Box series of “HongKong Machines” has won the Gold Award at the Hong Kong Smart Design Competition. His latest work, “Daydream Notebook”, has won the Silver Award at the HK Comics Support Programme, sponsored by CreateHK.

The Association for Promoting Macau Comics and Animation Cultural Exchange was created in 2014 to support the professional development of the industry, technical exchanges and cooperation between local and foreign illustrators, with a view to warranting more high-quality and large-scale projects, as well as publications, lectures and other activities that benefit the Macao community.
