POSTER

The Rui Cunha Foundation will host on Wednesday, June 18th at 6:30pm, another session of the CREDDM Greater Bay Area series, entitled “2nd Greater Bay Area – Europe Roundtable”, bringing together business leaders and experts to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping the relations between Europe and China, with special focus on the cities of the Greater Bay Area: Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macau.

Europe–China relations stand at a pivotal moment amid shifts in the global geopolitical landscape, including those brought by the Trump 2.0 Administration. Fifty years after the establishment of diplomatic ties between the People’s Republic of China and the European Union, both sides are gearing up for the much-anticipated EU–China Summit, expected to take place in July. What roles can Macau, Hong Kong, and the wider Greater Bay Area play in this evolving landscape? What prospects lie ahead for Sino–European trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges?

Other than the expectations for next month’s EU-China Summit, participants will be invited to comment on the GBA’s exposure to ongoing international trade frictions and other economic disputes, from the perspectives of Guangdong, Macau and Hong Kong, the market access for European companies in mainland China and vice versa, the GBA’s contribution to China-EU trade and investment in the services sector, the challenges for Macao and Hengqin, the opportunities for local SMEs, and proposals or suggestions for strengthening Sino-European relations.

Special guest speakers for this debate are Rui Pedro Cunha, President of the Macau European Chamber of Commerce; Klaus Zenkel, Vice President of the Swiss Chamber of Commerce South China and Member of the South China Board for the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China; Li Xiaoying, Vice Dean of the Institute for Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Development Studies and Professor of Economics at Sun Yat-Sen University; Marco Wai, Chief Representative of Hong Kong & Greater Bay Area at 8 Hours Ahead, and Member of the Macau Youth Summit Policy Research Group; and Jorge Costa Oliveira (via Zoom), Consultant and Former Vice Minister for the Internationalization of the Portuguese Economy.

The conversation will be led and moderated by José Sales Marques, Former President of the Institute of European Studies of Macau; and José Carlos Matias, Director of Macau Business Magazine.

This conference will be held in English.

Admission is free.
