POSTER

The Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Tuesday, April 8th at 6:30 pm, the Calligraphy Works Display “Feelings Expressed in Ink”, by artist and teacher Ao Wan U (區運余), and her senior students from the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau I Chon Center, co-organizer of the event in partnership with The Flora Garden Poetry Friends Association.

This display features around 60 pen and brush calligraphy works, rich in context and diversity, from approximately 40 amateur artists aged between 45 and 88 years old.

«Calligraphy, an essential aspect of Chinese culture, carries the wisdom and aesthetic traditionsdeveloped over thousands of years. It is not merely a form of art, but also a pathway to spiritual growth. (…) In addition to awakening the mental potential of our elderly participants, the practice of calligraphy serves to enrich their understanding and appreciation of this art form through collaborative learning and exchange. Participants convey their stories with ink, expressing their emotions through their artwork. This endeavor beautifully reflects the principle of “lifelong learning”», says teacher, mentor, and curator Ao Wan U.

«As the tutor for this project, I hold a master’s degree in Education and have over 20 years of teaching experience in calligraphy. I have received several awards from the Macau Calligraphy Competition for Primary and Secondary School Teachers, reflecting my deep commitment to nurturing a passion for this form of art. My dedication to excellence in education has earned me recognition as an “Excellent Tutor”. I teach calligraphy not only in formal educational schools, but also in continuing education programmes for mature learners. Through these programmes, I hope to enhance their self-confidence and self-worth», she further states on the exhibition manifest.

The artworks will be on display until April 12th, 2025.

Admission is free.
