Bring a Poem to Life – 2025.03.21
The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Friday, March 21st at 6:30pm, a special session entitled “Bring a Poem to Life”, to celebrate World Poetry Day, a date established by UNESCO at the 30th General Conference in Paris, in 1999, to honor poetic expression and its cultural importance in societies around the world.
Co-organized by the Macau Bookworm’s Association and the Flora Garden Poetry Friends Association, this meeting is an opportunity to encourage reading, support poets and preserve linguistic and cultural diversity, through the written and spoken word.
In the form of a gathering, the public is invited to visit the FRC Gallery and bring a poem of their choice, in Portuguese or Chinese, to share with other participants in a relaxed evening with the purpose of enriching the communal experience. Poetry, with its ability to stir emotions, provoke reflection and convey feelings, spans centuries and civilizations, being one of the pillars of literary art.
More than a simple set of verses, poetry is a manifestation of the human soul, which can be lyrical, epic, social, philosophical or experimental, adapting to different eras and styles. From the sonnets of Camõesand the classic poems of Liu Yong, to the free verses of contemporary poetry, this literary genre has been a powerful means of communication and resistance.
The session will be led by physician and writer Shee Vá, representing the Macau Bookworm’s Association, who will invite participants to reveal poems with special meaning in their lives.
The conversation will be held in Portuguese and Chinese, according to the selected readings.
Admission is free.
