Chinese Ink Rhythms of Saint Paul’s Church – 2025.01.07
The Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Tuesday, January 7th at 6:30 pm, the Art Exhibition “Chinese Ink Rhythms of Saint Paul’s Church”, by Tsang Tseng Tseng (曾貞貞), an artist from Macau dedicated to the essence of traditional Chinese art, who primarily explores landscape paintings as a theme to express her emotions. The curatorship is by Jun Zilan.
Co-organized by the FRC, the Macau Youth Art Association (澳門青年美術協會) and the Macau Artists Society (澳門美術協會), the project includes about 40 Chinese ink paintings in a variety of sizes, ranging from large works to small careful detailed compositions.
Tsang Tseng Tseng has a spontaneous and natural style, blending elements of ancient tradition with a modern sensibility. According to Lok Hei, President of the Macau Artists Society, «Having studied in Jiangnan, a region with rich cultural heritage, her artistic creations are deeply integrated with traditional cultural values. Amongst the many young artists in Macau, Tsang Tseng Tseng stands out for her dedication to art. While studying for her doctorate at the China Academy of Art, she has focused on exploring paintings from the Song and the Yuan dynasties and has conducted extensive amount of research on Wu Li, a significant artist from the late Ming to early Qing dynasties who had important cultural and artistic connections with Macau».
Tsang Tseng Tseng’s «Chinese paintings build on the foundation of tradition, while incorporating elements of innovation, integrating classical elegance with a contemporary touch. By emphasizing brush and ink, she seeks to express peace and freedom amid the chaos of the modern world», as Lok Hei further states.
Tsang Tseng Tseng has practiced ink and brush painting for two decades. In 2008, she was selected as the winner of the New Talent Prize of the 24th Collective Exhibition of Macao Artists, by the Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau. After her academic training, in 2014 she was one of two students admitted to the CAA graduate program of Professor Lin Hai Zhong, who is recognized throughout Asia as a key representative of traditional scholarly painting. Since 2022, she has been a lecturer of the City University of Macau.
The artworks will be on display until January 18th, 2025.
