The Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30 pm, the Art Exhibition titled “City Walk. City Story”, by Zha Rui (查蕊), an artist who has been based in Macau for around ten years and offers a unique cultural perspective and artistic approach to capture the transformative essence of Macau over the past decade. With a variety of mediums including oil painting and digital printing, she reinterprets the city’s unique charm, vividly portraying its vibrant living cultures and architectural landscapes.

Co-organized by FRC, the Macau Youth Art Association (澳門青年美術協會), and the Macau Artist Society(澳門美術協會), the project includes around 40 graphic pieces, including paintings, postcards, packaging, notebooks and other allusive artifacts with emblematic images of the territory.

According to the manifesto, «through this exhibition, Zha Rui showcases another side of Macau’s beauty – not just as a tourist attraction, but as a place full of cultural richness. The exhibition acts as a conversation between the artist and the city, while also as a tribute to Macau’s cultural heritage and innovation». Walking through streets and aisles of Macau, Zha Rui ‘s exhibition acts as a window into a “Jigsaw of Cultures”, inviting viewers to re-examine the unique character of the city from her perspective. As an artist from Shandong who immigrated to Macau in 2014, she uses her talent to document the city’s transformation and allure over the past decade. But the artist’s work has not only captured the physical landscape of Macau, she has also been deepening her academic research, exploring the frontiers of art and its integration into the cultural and creative sectors.

«Macau is not just about casinos; it has a rich tapestry of living cultures that are worth exploring», Zha Rui says. With her works, she hopes to reveal another side of the city and to contribute to the preservation and innovation of local culture. This exhibition not only portrays the artist’s resilience and passion but also conveys her love and sense of responsibility for the city.

The artworks will be on display until January 4th, 2025.

Admission is free.
