POSTER-FBThe Rui Cunha Foundation opens today, Wednesday, October 30th at 6:30pm, the Art Exhibition titled “Superflat”, by Julia Lam Tsz Kwan (林子筠), a local Macau artist and art curator who graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Tsinghua University in Beijing. She began her artistic journey with traditional watercolorcomposition and, since 2020, has been immersing herself in post-impressionist art, with different techniques and materials.

Co-organized by FRC, the Macau Youth Art Association (澳門青年美術協會), and the Macau Artist Society (澳門美術協會), the project includes 10 paintings of emblematic buildings in the territory, recreated using techniques of painting, stamping and overlaying acrylic paint on canvas.

According to the exhibition manifest, «this creative method of spray overlap is derived from traditional watercolor composition logic. Julia Lam transforms the layering technique in watercolor into spray paint overlap on hand-made plates, incorporating various techniques such as cutting, dyeing, spraying, splattering, dripping, printing, brushing, stamping, and sweeping with texture embellishments, ultimately presenting the aesthetic traces of time through layer-by-layer assembly. In this way, Julia boldly developed a new, exclusive artistic style».

«The ten original works shown at Rui Cunha Foundation represent a series of urban visual cultural icons, such as Hotel Estoril, Red Market, Pier 16, the Old Court at Praia Grande, to name but a few. By reiterating their historical significance, the artist hopes to arouse public attention to these urban landmarks, and therefore the works are named after the year in which the building was completed», explains the informative text, adding that the “Superflat” series reflect not only Julia Lam’s self-exploration in recent years, but they are also a summary of her artistic transformation», heralding a «return to the essence of things in her art journey, transcending the self and opening wider horizons for her next metamorphosis».

The artworks will be on display until November 9th, 2024.

Admission is free.
