The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Tuesday, March 22nd at 6:30pm, the Watercolor Exhibition “A Glance Over the East” by Luísa Petiz, a Portuguese artist and architect who is bringing to FRC Gallery a set of 33 recent paintings of the everyday landscape of Macau and surroundings.

In this exhibition, the artist sought to explore her interest in portraits, colors and the culture of the Orient, reproducing charming places and corners of Macau. «The temples appear among the residential buildings, highlighted by their strong colors, sculpted roofs, curved lines and details that stay in our memory. The small, open-ended, old-fashioned, ground-floor shops that sell small utensils, antiques or precious stones, among others, filled with Chinese medicinal products or the famous dried fish whose characteristic smell is felt throughout the street, occupy much of the local commerce and do not go unnoticed», is described on her art work proposal.

The illustrations represent special local places and details that caught Luísa Petiz’s attention, such as «the narrow and irregular streets of the old town, full of metal awnings, balconies enclosed in cages of all colors, design and shapes, many of them covered in rust, the walls filled by air conditioning boxes and cables that seem to have no end», she also exemplifies about the project.

Moreover, “A Glance Over the East” shows a small collection of landscapes from Mainland China, which the artist has visited «when the possibility of exploring and traveling was part of the routine», according to her.

Luísa Petiz was born in Lisbon, Portugal, in 1995. She is an architect, graduated from the Faculty of Architecture in Lisbon (FAUTL, 2018), and she currently dedicates almost exclusively to interior design and watercolor illustrations, with special attention to oriental culture.

The watercolors will be on display until April 2, 2022.
