PosterThe Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Wednesday, February 16th at 6:30 pm, the “Chinese Painting for Charity” exhibition by Elizabeth Fernandes, that will showcase a set of 35 art works by the local amateur and enthusiastic artist, who developed her talent into adult life and could only fully dedicate to her passion after retirement.

The art pieces reproduce landscapes and nature, flowers, birds and insects, executed with traditional Chinese ink techniques, which Elizabeth Fernandes has been studying and perfecting throughout her life. The artist was head nurse at the local public hospital, but since childhood she «loved art and especially admired the realistic painting style of Giuseppe Castiglione, an Italian painter from the Qing dynasty», refers the exhibition proposal.

According to her, she entirely devoted herself after concluding her professional career. «After retiring in 1999, she participated in a Chinese painting course organized by the Macao Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau and completed four series of learning this art. Later, she continued to study with great masters, including Gan Heng, Guan Quanchang and Ding Hong, from whom she received and followed important teachings», can also be read.

Over the past two decades, the artist has joined various art groups and organizations. As she explains, «the art of painting is not a quick process and there are no shortcuts. It must be done step by step, to establish a solid foundation and gradually improve». Currently, she is a senior member of the Macao Fine Arts Association, the Touyuan Calligraphy and Painting Association, the Jingxin Calligraphy and Painting Association, the Elderly Calligraphy and Painters Association, the Culture and Art Society, the Xingyin Calligraphy Society, the Huaxia Society and the Macau Guzhang Society.

The proceeds from the displayed art works will go to two charity organizations that support people with physical disabilities and their families, promoting social reintegration through sports, as well as the rehabilitation of patients with cancer: the Macau-China Paralympic Committee: Recreation and Sports Association for the Disabled and the Happy Paradise Association.

The paintings will be on display at the FRC Gallery until the 26th of February 2022.
