“Sino-Portuguese Culture Encounters” . Balloon Art Exhibition – 2021.03.09
The Rui Cunha Foundation presents next Tuesday, March 9th at 6:30 pm, a balloon art exhibition entitled “Sino-Portuguese Culture Encounters”, co-organized by the Blessing Balloon Studio of Macau.
The artists will display 15 pieces made with balloons, using special material and detailed techniques. They intend to combine shapes and colors to create symbols alluding to Chinese and Portuguese cultures, especially celebrating the territory of Macau.
The public will be able to discover at the Gallery a traditional dragon or the old Lisbon tram, the Saint Paul’s Ruins or even the Guia Lighthouse, among other curiosities that will be reproduced here.
The artists of the Blessing Balloon Studio are a group of young people born after the 90s, with the common dream of creating pieces of art from balloons. They get together in their spare time, after classes or work, to explore different shapes with new colors and materials, which result in interesting or emblematic projects.
Blessing Balloon Studio was officially registered on November 26, 2012, as an online balloon store in Macau. The team started by developing small presentations with balloons at events, decorations for birthday parties, organizing recreational activities in social communities and creative workshops in schools. A physical store opened in Macau in 2016, which would later be transformed into an artistic studio in 2018.
As a platform for the promotion and exchange of experiences and technical skills, the Blessing Balloon Studio has also been dedicated to helping young people who had left school, but who were keen to learn the art of balloons, in order to apply for new job opportunities in life.
In eight years, since the creation of the Studio, the number of team members has greatly increased, bringing together high-school and university students, but also adults trained in other areas. The group sought professionalization, obtaining with success the balloon art lecturer license from the Taiwan Chinese Aesthetics and Art Association, and networking with international balloonists in mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia.
The exhibition will be open until March 17th, 2021. Entrance is free.
