Fundação Rui Cunha co-organizes with Macao Educational Centre of Culture “The Sound of Shakuhachi” in the Gallery Fundação Rui Cunha on 5th October at 6.30 pm.
This is the first activity that ACA Fest Macao 2019 presents. We are pleased and honored that Mr Haru, Shahukachi Musician, accepted the invitation to be the guest speaker at our event and to share the mystery of Shakuhachi with us. Mr Haru will also play Shakuhachi in the workshop.
Mr Haru, Shahukachi Musician, is a Hong Kong Shakuhachi musician and theatre artist. Back in 2007, Mr Haru began studying Shakuhachi under the tutelage of Ocean Chan, practicing a portfolio of classical and contemporary music including Chikuho-ryu、 Watazumi-Yokoyama honkyohn and many others. Later, he regularly visited Kyoto to enhance his skill from different schools, such as Kinko-ryu, Tozan-ryu andMyoan-ryu. He also learned from Shakuhachi master, Mr. Yodo Kurahashi. From 2012, Mr Haru started performing with different arts groups, including solo Shakuhachi performances and live accompaniments, as well as working with groups to record television, film and advertisement soundtracks.
Shakuhachi was originally derived from the Chinese xiao in the 8th century. The Shakuhachi is an end blown bamboo flute with four holes on the front and one on the back. The standard length of 1.8 Japanese feet (54.5 cm) is found in the name of the instrument -shaku-foot and hachi-eight.
Admission: free and open to the public.
Event will be conducted in Chinese language with no simultaneous translation.
