Intimate Immensity – 2026.03.24
The Rui Cunha Foundation opens today, Tuesday, March 24th at 6:30pm, the Collective Art Exhibition “Intimate Immensity”, with Gu Ye and twelve Doctoral Students from the Faculty of Humanities and Arts of Macau University of Science and Technology (MUST), co-organizer of the event.
The project features a set of 17 works that represent the forms and styles created by the disciples of renowned artist and teacher Gu Yue (顧躍). They are Wang Diyi (王迪怡), Meng Zihao (孟子豪), Li Ranqing (李然青), Jiang Hang (蔣航), Zhong Xinzi (鍾信子), He Yiyan (何依妍), Xu Chen (許宸), Wang Chao (王超), Li Jielin (李潔霖), Zhou Zixuan (周子軒), Wang Jianan (王嘉楠), and Qi Jiajun (齐佳珺).
The collection consists of acrylic and oil painting, watercolor, ink, composite materials, prints, and porcelain. «The works gathered in this exhibition are the collective exploration and visual shaping by a group of young artists who came to study in Macao from the mainland. Starting from the most intimate experiences, they delve into a variety of themes, including the emotional tension in family memories, the inner anxiety in a competitive society, and the private feelings of physical pain», states the artistic preface.
«As “nomads”, the artists are situated in the unique cultural intersection of Macao, and their perspectives inherently contain the tension and richness of “in-between”. The images they create thus become experimental fields where multiple cultural memories and imaginations collide and overlap».
Professor Gu Yue, as an academic leader, has aligned the works and research with the main thread of “Intimate Immensity”. The title of the exhibition is derived from the human condition described by French philosopher Gaston Bachelard in his 1958 publication “The Poetics of Space” – that in a private, small physical space, through poetic imagination, one can experience an infinite and vast inner experience», according to the same manifest.
Therefore, the artists are «inviting viewers to dive deep into these seemingly “intimate” images to perceive the “immensity” reverberations triggered by the tremors of individual lives, leading to an understanding of oneself and the times».
The artworks will be on display until April 2nd, 2026.
Admission is free.
