Metamorphosis – 2025.06.11
The Rui Cunha Foundation opens on Wednesday, June 11th at 6:00pm, the Solo Art Exhibition“Metamorphosis” by Lúcia Lemos, which showcases a retrospective view of her artistic career, with works and compositions of various genres here represented at FRC Gallery. The event is part of the Program of Festivities of “June, Month of Portugal in the Macao SAR”.
“Metamorphosis” brings together 44 pieces that link diverse artistic expressions and aesthetics, such as engraving, photography, installation, painting, and ceramics. Lúcia Lemos uses organic materials to give substance to the ideas and meanings of her art, in different languages and forms that she has been experimenting and learning throughout her life, now with greater freedom and time to explore them.
This exhibition emerges from «lived transformations and personal visual observations of the physical space – Macau – where I allowed myself to be assimilated, without ever forgetting to practice my identity, as a sense of belonging to the place – Portugal – I left four decades ago», reflects the artist, who recently retired from the Creative Macau project she has founded in August 2003.
According to Lúcia Lemos, the retrospective that she is now exhibiting to the public «also means the symbiosis of construction and maturation of my identity, shaped by the changes of adaptation and adoption as a metamorphosis to a new place. Art and the artistic process seek ways of integrating and connecting the human beings to nature and the world around them».
Lúcia Lemos has built a professional career that crosses several arts and aesthetics, having begun with obtaining a Diploma in Arts Management in 2001. Later, she established the Center for Creative Industries – Creative Macau, which she coordinated for over 20 years, and launched the Macau International Short Film Festival. She has participated in over 50 group exhibitions in Macau and elsewhere, with a variety of works and visual artistic languages, some of which awarded. Since 2002, she has been showcasing b/w photography solo exhibitions in Berkeley, Curitiba, Lisbon, Macau, Monza, Palermo, Porto, Salzburg, and Shanghai.
The exhibition will be on display until June 21st, 2025.
Admission is free.
