Poster_new2021The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Saturday, March 8th, 2025 at 5:00 pm, the “Mars Lei Vocal Students Recital”, as part of the musical concert series Nam Van Sound Waves, co-organized by the Macau Vocal Association.

This session of Bel Canto brings a group of three students from Beijing Normal University and Hong Kong Baptist University – United International College (UIC), who study under musical vocal teacher Mars Lei, an accomplished pianist, guitarist, choral conductor, arranger, and a baritone classic performer himself.

Sopranos Lilian Li (李靈君姿), Lene Zhang (張書涵), and Vicky Wu (巫嘉蔚), will be accompanied by pianists Sunny Yao (姚堰水), Eileen Zhang (張書涵), and Abbie Chen (陳彥陶), respectively, to perform classical pieces from Italian composers Stefano Donaudy, Antonio Cesti, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Giovanni Bononcini, Antonio Caldara, Giulio Caccini and Giuseppe Verdi; German composers Christoph Gluck and George Frideric Handel; Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; and Chinese composer Xi Qiminng (奚其明).

Bel Canto is considered the ultimate expression of the human voice. The Italian term was coined in the 18th century. This vocal technique emphasizes the beauty of sound and the artist’s technical ability, rather than the dramatic expression or romantic emotion. It is still taught today in similar ways as in the past.

The Macau Vocal Association has always aimed to promoting the development of vocal music art in Macau, and achieving the mission of spreading it towards the young people and the local public. The series of recitals and concerts, held in partnership with educational institutions in the territory, intend to provide through music a balanced development of moral, intellectual, aesthetic, physical, and social well-being, for people of all ages in their free time.
