The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Saturday, September 10th, at 5:00pm, the “Evonne Lei Students Piano and Composition Special”, as part of the Nam Van Sound Waves series, with the participation of 9 piano and composition students from Academia de Música S. Pio X. They are Chan Un U Carina (陳婉如), Molly Gong (龔梓墨), Cheang Un Hei Genki (鄭鉉羲), Leong Hoi Lam (梁鎧嵐), Lei Pak Hou Paco (李柏灝), Ho In Lok (何彥樂), Leong Chit Lam (梁哲藍), Yamanaka Mika (山中心月) and Johnson Chan (陳迪衠).

In time for the Mid-Autumn Festival season, the program opens with the gentle melody of the song “Looking at the Moon” 《看月亮》 by Chinese composer Li Feilan (李斐嵐) with reference to the moonlight glow. Musical pieces by classical composers will follow, such as Johann Sebastian Bach, Dmitry Kabalevsky, Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Frédéric Chopin, Helen Hopekirk, Edvard Grieg, Robert Schumann, Ni Hongjin and Johnson Chan, the young composer born in 2005 who performed last September 5th at FRC. The pianist will interpret four of his original works, combining classical heritage with Chinese culture.

Evonne Lei is a composer and pianist born and raised in Macau. She devoted herself to teaching piano and many notable students passed through her classes. As a pianist and a teacher, she has won several important awards such as the “Excellent Piano Teacher Award“, “Best Instructor Award” and “Excellent Instructor Award“, gaining recognition and reputation in local music education circles. As a mentor for composition students, she has also helped to launch young talents, who have started writing music, performing concerts and fulfilling personal dreams. The pedagogue’s aim has been to actively promote the development of original music in Macau.
