Chinese Cultural Week – 2020.06.15 – 19
The Rui Cunha Foundation, the daily newspaper Hoje Macau and the publishing company Livros do Meio promote, from 15 to 19 June, a Chinese Culture Week at the Rui Cunha Foundation, in which seven books translated from Chinese into Portuguese will be launched and presented.
For five days, at 6:30 pm, the Portuguese speaking community in Macao will be able to establish a closer and much deeper contact with the Chinese culture.
Oriental philosophy, poetry, ethnography, military strategy and theory of painting will be the themes addressed in the presentation and launch of these books.

Thus, on Monday, two important books from the Confucian Canon will be presented: “Estudo Maior” (Study Major) by Da Xue and “A Prática do Meio” (The Practice of the Environment) by Zhongyong.

On Tuesday, the book presentation will be “As Leis da Guerra” (The Laws of War) by Sun Bin (Sun Bin Bing Fa), a descendant of Sun Zi, the author of the famous “Arte da Guerra” (Art of War).

Wednesday is the day of aesthetics with the presentation of two volumes of fundamental essays on classical painting, from the 6th to the 18th Century: “Os Eixos da Tradição” (The Axes of Tradition) and “O Fascínio do Gesto” (The Fascination of Gesture).

On Thursday, we will have the “Divino Panorama – Um Inferno Chinês” (Divine Panorama – A Chinese Hell), a text that brings together influences from Buddhism, Taoism and Confucianism, in the construction of a hellish world where the souls of the dead atone themselves from the mistakes and sins committed in life.

Chinese Cultural Week – Balance

With the exception of the first two – which present a renewed and contemporary translation, full of explanatory notes and introductory texts to Chinese knowledge – none of these volumes have been translated into Portuguese before.
All sessions will be held in Portuguese, with simultaneous interpretation into Cantonese and Mandarin.
Entry is free, but subject to limitation due to compliance with the regulatory health measures in force.
