The Rui Cunha Foundation presents today, Friday, June 5th at 6:00pm, a Vocal and Flute Recital entitled “Songs at the Window, Shadows of the Flute”, performed by two high school students enrolled in the Vocational Music Courseprogram at the Macau Baptist College (MBC).
The voice of Omyl (何奧蓉) will join the sound of Claire’s (陳悅) flute in this show, to perform together classical and traditional themes, accompanied on the piano by Professor Irene Leong Kei Tong (梁其冬). The repertoire for this soirée includes musical pieces by the French composers Camille Saint-Saëns and Francis Poulenc, the Austrian Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the Italian Giuseppe Verdi, the Russian Aleksandr Alyabyev, and the Chinese Li Yan and Hu Yanjiang.
Musical education is a prominent teaching area of Macau Baptist College, which has always been prioritized and implemented in the school programs. Since 2006, Elementary School has offered instrumental music classes to new pupils, so that everyone has the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument. The aim is to allow children to receive a musical education from an early age, improving their artistic ambitions and cultivating learning practices that require precision, perseverance and regular training. These help to stimulate a sense of confidence and resilience during the growth process.
The creation of the Vocational Music Course program in 2008, at High-Schoollevel, has deepened the teaching of musical skills. The students have subsequently been accepted into prestigious musical institutions in China – such as the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing or the Xinghai Conservatory of Music in Guangzhou –, in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, the United States, or Switzerland, producing encouraging results.
