Rui Cunha Foundation has the pleasure to hold yet another exclusive exhibition dedicated to the ancient art of Chinese Calligraphy. This time invited artist Hong San San Rodrigues brings her unique take on the millenary skill of both calligraphy and seal carving.
Hong inherited her passion from her father a well-know calligrapher and seal carver in their original hometown of Fujian. It was with him she learned all about the calligraphy types she showcases in this exhibition.
Now celebrating her 60th anniversary, this amateur finally had her life-long dream of a solo exhibition fulfilled. The result is a collection of pieces of beautifully crafted calligraphy examples, ranging from Cao 草(cursive) to zhuanshu篆 (selo) styles. As homage to her late father, Hong San San also brings ten carefully carved traditional Chinese seals, the piece of resistance of the entire collection. Connoisseurs and admirers of this form of art will not be disappointed with the sheer passion presented in these works.
In her words, quoting the famous adage, “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”. She believes hers to have begun with her decision to move to Macau in 1981. This is perhaps the beginning of a new one, into the intricate world of Chinese traditional art.
