The Macau Association of the Mentally Handicapped organizes “Finger painting exhibition” at the Rui Cunha Foundation

Rui Cunha Foundation has long been a supporter of the arts and an active player in the local society. In a bid to be ever more inclusive the Foundation, with the sponsorship of Bank of China, is an honored host of “Finger Painting exhibition” an exhibition organized by the students of The Macau Association of the Mentally Handicapped.

The paintings exhibited this year were created under the guide and assistance of the tutors, helping the students learn how to use the coordination of the large and small muscles. Both multimedia elements and communication skills are involved during the creation process, to enrich the paintings. Different multimedia elements were added to the works, something that is conducive to the development of children.

The Association has always attached importance to the development of the students, adding different elements to the artistic creation every year, hoping to explore their potential. As said by Diane Lavin, early childhood educator, finger painting is a whole-body and mind-related experience. Through the touch of paint, mixing the different colors, the children learn to connect feelings— emotional and physical— thus developing their communication skills.

“Finger painting exhibition” is a unique opportunity to share with all ages the impact of art in all of the community. Learning and art are uniquely connected and the event is an excellent way of showcasing the power of the creative process. An event not to be missed.
