“It was in 1992 that a group of students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto reunited to enrich their academic experience by perpetuating the academic tradition and performing the most beautiful Portuguese music, the Academic Fado. Through the melodies sung and the chords played they brought together the values of academic life, aiming to celebrate not only the Fado from Coimbra itself and the Portuguese music in general, but also the spirit that unites all those who find in it an expression of their identity. Thus, the Grupo de Fados de Medicina do Porto was founded, one of the Fado groups with the longest history within Porto Academy.

 Over the years and across generations, the group has proudly carried on the legacy of the Students Song, expressed through its participation in Monumental Serenades, Fado Nights, Anniversary Galas, and many other events that reflect our passion and dedication to musical artistry. Adding to this, we have visited Portuguese communities abroad, aiming to interact with them in moments of mutual sharing. In recent years, these tours have taken the Group to all around the globe, from the USA to Asia, not forgetting Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, France, among other destinations.”
