The Rui Cunha Foundation presents on Monday, March 17th at 6:30pm, a session of the Circle of Ideiasseries, titled “The Portuguese Language in a Changing World”, with the participation of former Rector of ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon, Professor Luís Reto, and the Associate Dean of the Faculty of Business of City University of Macau, Professor José Paulo Esperança. The event will be moderated by Marco Duarte Rizzolio, President of AEIMCP and co-founder of the 929 Challenge.

The guest speakers are co-authors of the book Novo Atlas da Língua Portuguesa, a joint project published by ISCTE-IUL in 2016, seeking to contribute to the affirmation of the value and potential of such unique language heritage, in a multidisciplinary and integrating approach, reflecting the multiple realities of its speakers.

According to CityU and AEIMCP, co-organizers of the event, the session will address the historical, cultural and geostrategic importance of the Portuguese language in the contemporary world. «The discussion will cover the historical factors that shaped the expansion of the Portuguese language, its current economic and geostrategic influence, as well as the challenges and opportunities related to the promotion and teaching of Portuguese on a global scale».

Furthermore, «the seminar will reflect on the possible future trajectories of the Portuguese language in the 21st century», also exploring «the role of Portuguese-speaking countries on the global stage, and how the Portuguese language can continue to expand its cultural, economic and educational relevance”, the organization adds.

The session will be held in Portuguese.
