Main Speaker: Mr. Fong Lin Wa – The Chairman of Macau Antique & Furniture Chamber of Commerce and the CEO of Old House Gallery; Macau Chinese Senior Antique Collector, has more than 30 years’ experience in the Chinese antique and furniture industry

Host: Ms. Fong Mei Leng – Member of the board of supervisors of Macau Antique & Furniture Chamber of Commerce, General manager of Old House Gallery with a master degree in Art Business at Tsinghua University & Sotheby’s Institute of Art.

The Rui Cunha Foundation and the Macau Antique & Furniture Chamber of Commerce will host the “Literati Elegance I – Wooden Scholar’s Objects Introduction” series at Rui Cunha Foundation Gallery at 6:30 pm on 14 August 2020 (Friday).

During this debate, speaker Mr. Fong Lin Wa will share his experience and knowledge with the audience on the culture and stories with regards to 4 rare, historical scholar’s objects, such as a Zitan Wood Embellished Box and Cover; a Zitan Inkstick Rest; a Small Zitan Table and an Embellished Carved Boxwood Ruyi Sceptre, etc. There will also be an interactive part where the audience is invited to observe and touch the objects directly, allowing them to physically experience and feel the beauty of these antique pieces.

The study chamber of an ancient scholar would be not only a physical space that’s designated for academic study, but a spiritual dwelling of ancient Chinese literati, translating the “home is where the heart is” feeling, echoing the poetic musing of Su Dongbo’s.

In a time when the world is plagued by the pandemic, we invite our audience to peek into the life of literati scholars. Amidst these art-filled, tastefully curated chambers, our panel will introduce a better understanding of the literati’s intellectual curiosity and aesthetic taste through a careful discussion on a few scholar’s objects from the collection of Mr. Fong Lin Wa.

Macau Antique & Furniture Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization. The purpose of the organization is to encourage the development of the antique and furniture industry in Macau.
