Splendid Red Bridal Attire · A Hundred Years of Matrimony · Warm Moments of Qungua and the City Symposium on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Chinese Wedding Customs to be held at Rui Cunha Foundation, Macau
The Associação de Arte e Cultura de Qungua de Macau will host the Symposium on Intangible Cultural Heritage of Traditional Chinese Wedding Customs, themed Splendid Red Bridal Attire · A Hundred Years of Matrimony · Warm Moments of Qungua and the City, at the Conference Hall of the Rui Cunha Foundation on Wednesday, 28 October 2026.
Combined with physical exhibits of phoenix coronets, embroidered capes and vintage qungua, the event aims to promote the intangible heritage of traditional Chinese wedding culture and explore the profound rituals behind the exquisite craft of qungua.
The programme is divided into two sessions. From 16:30 to 17:00, there will be a collection appreciation session for antique phoenix coronets, embroidered capes and qungua, allowing guests to admire the fine embroidery craftsmanship of traditional bridal costumes. The symposium will follow from 17:00 to 18:00, covering topics including the origin of qungua, embroidery techniques, wedding rituals and the inheritance of Lingnan wedding culture, discussing how this heritage can be sustained and innovated in modern times.
Organised by the Associação de Arte e Cultura de Qungua de Macau, co‑organised by the Macau Collectors Association, the Rotary Club of Ilhas de Macau and the Rui Cunha Foundation. Wong Wing So, President, and Wu Peng Chiu, Director General of the Association, warmly invite cultural enthusiasts, collectors and residents of Macau to join and discover the century‑old romance and cultural heritage embodied in these red bridal costumes.
As a landmark intangible cultural heritage of Lingnan wedding traditions, every stitch of the qungua carries blessings and good wishes. The organiser hopes this symposium and showcase will raise public awareness of Chinese wedding rituals and traditional embroidery, so this gentle craft and etiquette culture can keep thriving in Macau.
