Galloping – 2026.04.21

As we celebrate the Year of the Horse, we also mark the 14th anniversary of Rui Cunha Foundation. It is my great honour to be invited to this grand occasion and present this photography exhibition themed on the horse.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Rui Cunha Foundation for its selfless dedication and generous support over the years. With professional guidance and technical assistance, the Foundation has laid a solid foundation for the successful presentation of this exhibition. For fourteen years, it has also continued to build a platform for Macau’s cultural and artistic community, passing on the spirit of local arts.

As an auspicious symbol in the Chinese zodiac, the horse has long represented good fortune and progress, embodying the meaning of “success immediately upon arrival”. In this exhibition, the artist, with profound photographic expertise, uses a sensitive lens to capture the noble spirit and character of the horse. The works freeze the momentum of galloping in an instant and grasp the grace and vitality of the horse through light and shadow. The wildness of the wilderness, the strength of power, and the elegance of posture are all vividly preserved.

The exhibition deconstructs the multi-layered imagery of the horse — from the vitality of galloping in the wild, to the calm and elegant spirit, and further to the transformation and renewal of the horse as a cultural symbol in modern times, showing the integration of traditional zodiac culture and contemporary visual art.

May visitors experience the profound warmth of Chinese culture amid the flow of light and shadow, and appreciate the brilliant sparks generated by the collision between traditional spirit and contemporary art.
