Macau String Association, which was establish on October in 2011, is a non-profit organization for enthusiasts and performers of strings orchestral music. Our objectives are to improve the qualities of the local string orchestral players in the aspects of their performing levels, techniques and friendship between members.
Macau Strings Association has invited the Macau violist Mr. Cheong cheng peng to present several viola music to the Macau people at the RUI CUNHA FOUNDATION GALLERY. Cheng Peng Cheong is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Conservatorium van Amsterdam. With his extraordinary performance, Mr. Cheong has received the Talent Grant from the Conservatory.
Mr. Cheong also passionate in promoting Classical Music in Macau where he found the Macau Strings Association, and he is currently the Vice-President of the Board of Directors.

Cheong Cheng Peng, Violist
Cheng Peng Cheong started to learn violin in the age of eight. He was concertmasters and viola principles in several orchestras and ensembles, including Student Orchestra of Macau Conservatory, Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra, and HKAPA Symphony Orchestra. Also, he participated as viola associate principles in several concerts at the Jordan Hall and Paramount Opera House in Boston with the NEC Symphony Orchestra, Opera, and Philharmonia. Moreover, Mr. Cheong has participated in the Macao Orchestra as a freelancer in several concerts, including the concert tour of the Seoul International Music Festival. On the other hand, Mr. Cheong has also given many successful solo and chamber concerts in Macau, the Netherlands, and the USA. In 2000, Mr. Cheong studied violin under Mr. Wang Lan at the Macau Conservatory where he studied with Mr. Chen Yun afterwards. In 2004, he was accepted in the junior program of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, studying under Prof. Michael Ma.
Mr. Cheong received his Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Music under Mr. Leung Kin Fung at the HKAPA in 2008 and 2010. In May 2013, Mr. Cheong received his Bachelor’s degree in Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, graduating with Academic Honors.
During his studies at the New England Conservatory, he studied with Prof. Marcus Thompson, the President of Boston Chamber Music Association and Professor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
With his passion towards Chamber Music, Mr. Cheong has performed with the famous violinist James Buswell. Mr. Cheong also received coachings from many famous Chamber Music performers, including Dr. Roger Tapping (the current member of the Julliard String Quartet) and Mr. Christopher Tong (Borromeo String Quartet).
Pursuing a strong interest in European Music culture, Cheng Peng Cheong is currently pursuing a Master’s degree at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, studying Viola with Nobuko Imai who has been a leading viola soloist and pedagogue since the early 1990s. With his extraordinary performance, Mr. Cheong has received the Talent Grant from the Conservatory where he has also received private lessons from professors
include Marjolein Dispa, Sven Arne Tepl, Francien Schatborn. Mr. Cheong also passionate in promoting Classical Music in Macau where he found the Macau Strings Association, and he is currently the Vice-President of the Board of Directors.
