The Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macau SAR will shortly publish “Os Dores” for the first time and re-publish “ Dedinhos de Pé” (Love and Tiny Toes) as part of the public presentation of the collection “Obra Completa de Henrique de Senna Fernandes” (The Complete Works of Henrique de Senna Fernandes).

At a time of celebration of the 89th anniversary of the birth of Macau’s most renowned writer, the Cultural Affairs Bureau and Fundação Rui Cunha, co-organizer of the event, will pay tribute to this learned man who understood how to put the Macanese spirit into writing so well, to the teacher who always strove to establish a kind and protective relationship with his students, and to the man who stood up for the rights of the Macanese community.

The ceremony will take place in the Gallery of the Fundação Rui Cunha on 15 October at 6.00pm. A presentation of the author and his work will be given by his son, Dr. Miguel de Senna Fernandes. In tandem, several personalities who were closely acquainted with the writer will say a few words.

On days and times to be announced shortly, screenings will be held of the films “Amor e Dedinhos de Pé” and “A Trança Feiticeira”, which, inspired by the books of the same name, helped to cement the reputation of Senna Fernandes and Macau in the filmmaking world. The number of screenings, which will be shown free of charge, will depend on the level of interest.

With the collection “Obra Completa de Henrique de Senna Fernandes” (The Complete Works of Henrique de Senna Fernandes), the Cultural Affairs Bureau hopes to bring to greater public attention in Macau and within the Portuguese language community the unusual history and stories of this small peninsula in the Pearl River Delta and its people through the particular writing of this “son of the soil”.
