Sounds of Early Spring – 2026.05.29
The Rui Cunha Foundation presents today, Friday, May 29th at 6:30pm, the Piano Recital “Sounds of Early Spring”, an event showcasing five talented students of Prof. Igor do Amaral, a renowned pianist and pedagogue who teaches Piano and Musical Performance at the Beijing Normal University – Hong Kong Baptist University (BNBU), in Zhuhai.
Organized in conjunction with the Opus One Artists Association of Macau, “Sounds of Early Spring” will feature on FRC’s Gallery stage four BNBU students from the mainland – pianists Purple Huang Zilan (黄紫蓝), Aki Chong Yaqi (种亚琦), Anna Du Yeqing (杜烨晴) and Daisy Yang Zhuoxi (杨卓熙) –, joined by young Andy Xu (許思灝), a native of Macau, who is a private pupil of Igor do Amaral.
The musical program will include the German classical composers Ludwig van Beethoven, Robert Schumann, and Johann Sebastian Bach; the French composers Maurice Ravel and Claude Debussy; and the Soviet composer Aram Khachaturian.
Igor do Amaral holds a Doctoral Degree of Musical Arts, a Professional Diploma, and two Master’s degrees. He studied and worked with Luong Kim Ying, Jackson Leung, Panayis Lyras (the winner of The Van Cliburn Competition), Derek Polischuk, Margarita Shevchenko (winner of the Chopin, Leeds, and Cleveland International Competitions), Simone Dinnerstein (Grammy nominee), and Maria João Pires.
Born in Macau, he was awarded numerous prizes, sponsorships, and prestigious scholarships. He has been invited to perform with orchestra and as a soloist in North America, Europe and Asia, including concert halls such as Carnegie Hall, Gilles-Lefebvre Concert Hall, Teatro Jovellanos, Guangzhou Xinghai Concert Hall, Ernst C. Stiefel Hall, Macau Cultural Center, and others.
He is often invited to give lectures and masterclasses around Asia and the United States. Previously, Igor do Amaral has held teaching positions at the Michigan State University, Interlochen Center for the Arts and the University of Saint Joseph. He is currently a faculty member at the Macau Polytechnic University and the BNBU.
